I’ll have solutions for what you can do if you think numbers and finances are boring or time consuming as well. It’s okay to have these thoughts or fears, but you and I both know that when you own your own business, there are things you need to do for your business to make an impact not only on your bottom line or your income, but for your business to succeed in other areas as well. It’s time for you to break these fears or habits that may be holding you back and start this new year off in the right direction. Whether you are just getting started with your business, you are a self-employed individual, a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, a remote, virtual, online or in-house bookkeeper, or a virtual assistant or VA, you can overcome these obstacles so that you can enjoy, yes, I said enjoy, your business and your business finances. I’ve been getting quite a few messages from business owners saying that they are struggling to create a budget for their business. Some are just getting their business up and running and others have been in business for a few years. Either way, having a budget for your business will allow you to dictate how you want your money coming in and out of your business to flow. When you don’t have a budget, it is easy to lose track of your numbers or your goals for the year. I often hear business owners say it is hard to create a budget, or they don’t know where to start. In today’s podcast episode, I am going to dive into how you can easily create a simple budget for your business and how you can get started. It doesn’t have to be hard, and it doesn’t need to take a long time when you know what you need to do in the first place. So, whether you are using a computerized software system like QuickBooks, Xero, Wave or FreshBooks for your business finances, or if you are doing your bookkeeping manually with an Excel spreadsheet or even a Google Document, knowing how you can create a simple and easy budget for your business will help you stick to your goals and allow you to track exactly how close you are to your original budget numbers. Whether you are just getting started with your business, you are a self-employed individual, a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, remote virtual online bookkeeper, virtual assistant or VA, you want to take the time to really look at your numbers, create a budget and use your budget as a compass to help guide your finances throughout the year…

When you own your own business, it can be difficult and lonely at times. You most likely feel like every single decision that you make is essential to the success of your business, but you don’t know if you are making the right decision, the wrong decision or even if it is the right time to make these decisions. This is common among entrepreneurs and solopreneurs, so don’t feel like you are the only one with these feelings. In fact, there are many small business owners who don’t have an advisory group or a board of directors who are available to run ideas past and help aid in the decision-making process. It is easy to do research and gather all the necessary information, but when it comes down to decision making time, many business owners just wish they had someone they could talk to, to run ideas past and to get perspective and feedback from someone who is trusted and is capable of adding valuable insight to their challenges. In today’s podcast episode, I am diving deep into what a mastermind is, who masterminds are best for and what you should be asking yourself before joining a mastermind. If you are ready to proactively jump into the next year by efficiently leveling up your business, building trusted relationships, thinking bigger and getting ahead of your competition, a business mastermind may be exactly what you are looking for. It doesn’t matter if you are using a computerized software system like QuickBooks, Xero, Wave or FreshBooks for your business finances, or if you are doing your bookkeeping manually with an Excel spreadsheet or even a Google Document, keeping a pulse on your business finances and making smart business decisions is key to your business success. Whether you are just getting started with your business, you are a self-employed, a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, remote virtual online bookkeeper, virtual assistant or VA, listen in so that you are equipped with the knowledge you need to accomplish your goals and bring your business to the level you are aspiring…

Have you ever heard about the W9 form? It is an important form and more than likely, you’ve either had a request for this form, or you yourself may be requesting them from your vendors. We are coming to the end of another year and it’s time to really look closely at your finances so that you are prepared when it comes time to file your taxes. Today I am talking about a common misconception when it comes to figuring out what your taxable income is. Many business owners will take a look at their business bank account and think this is the number they will need to pay their taxes on, but this is not accurate, and it causes a lot of problems when it comes down to calculating taxes owed on taxable income, especially if that bank account balance is lower than the actual net income. This can bring about a large tax liability that you may not be ready for. I’ve heard many times that business owners don’t think they will owe taxes because they only have about a small dollar amount in their bank account. This in theory seems like it should be the answer, but you’ll find out today what can cause this number to not match what your true profit and loss or net income amount is. It doesn't matter if you are using a computerized bookkeeping system such as QuickBooks, Xero, Wave or Freshbooks or a manual spreadsheet using Excel or Google Sheets, you still need to get your net income to prepare your tax return. Whether you are just getting started with your business, you are a self-employed, a solopreneur, entrepreneur, small business owner, remote virtual online bookkeeper, virtual assistant or VA, you really want to pay attention to this episode, so you don’t fall into this same belief. I want to make sure that you are as prepared as possible for filing your taxes and you don’t find any surprises when you figure out what your tax consequences are for the year…

When you are thinking about starting a bookkeeping business, you first want to make sure that being a bookkeeper is right for you, and you need to know what a bookkeeper does. To do this, make sure you check out episodes 55 and 57 in this bookkeeper series. One of the next things you start to wonder about is how much will it cost to start a bookkeeping business. You’ve heard me talk about how bookkeeping businesses are one of the top most profitable businesses. Part of the reason for this is the low cost and overhead it requires to run the business. We all know that bookkeeping isn’t for everyone, but if it is for you, you know it can be profitable. That’s why bookkeeping businesses work so well for stay-at-home parents, new moms, side-hustlers looking for additional income, individuals who want a career change, accountants and bookkeepers working for an employer, college students needing extra income and retired individuals – or individuals getting close to retirement and are looking for supplemental income. In today’s episode, I am going to cover what the costs of starting a bookkeeping business are and just how surprised you might be about the amount of money you would need to spend to get started in a business that you will have total control of. By starting a bookkeeping business, you get to take on as much or as little work as you want. You get to decide how much money you’d like to make, and you are finally in control of your calendar and schedule so that you can take time off to enjoy life’s simple pleasures without any of the guilt you may have had in the past from working for an employer. Listen in today and you’ll see just how affordable starting your own bookkeeping business is and how you can take back control of your life…
